Q.There is a brown substance at the bottom of the can. What is it?

A. This substance is the result of the Maillard reaction, which occurs between sugars and amino acids during the high-temperature, high-pressure sterilization process. The Maillard reaction is a common phenomenon in human food as well. For example, the browning that occurs when meat is grilled is also caused by the Maillard reaction. This reaction plays an important role in developing appealing color and flavor. Therefore, the Maillard reaction byproducts may enhance palatability, and the product can be fed with confidence.

Q.What are the white areas in the contents?

A. The white areas visible in the wet food are fat derived from the meat ingredients. This is a natural occurrence, and the product can be fed with confidence.

The photo above is provided for reference only to help with understanding. If the actual appearance differs from the photo or if it is difficult to determine, please contact us along with a photo of the product.

Q.There are greenish or bluish substances in the contents. What are they?

A. The green, bluish, white, beige, or iridescent substances visible in the wet food may appear differently depending on the surrounding environment and lighting. These substances are gelatin or fat derived from animal protein ingredients. This phenomenon is commonly seen in fat or gelatin found in boiled meat, pork trotters, and similar foods. During the grinding, mixing, and sterilization processes of wet food production, physical impact and heat treatment may cause some proteins and fats from the meat ingredients to take on this appearance. As this product contains a high proportion of meat ingredients, this is a natural occurrence, and the product can be fed with confidence. The photo above is provided for reference only to help with understanding. If the actual appearance differs from the photo or if it is difficult to determine, please contact us along with a photo of the product.

** Why does it appear green, bluish, white, beige, or iridescent?
The appearance may vary depending on the surrounding environment and lighting. Meat muscle is composed of multiple bundles of muscle fibers surrounded by connective tissue. During processing, these fibers may protrude on the surface of the muscle tissue, creating an arrangement on the cut surface that is similar to a diffraction grating.

(A diffraction grating refers to a flat glass or concave metal plate engraved with many closely spaced parallel lines. When light shines on it, diffraction and interference allow the spectrum of light to be observed.) For this reason, when light shines on the surface of the meat, the light may scatter and create this type of iridescent appearance.
